My paintings are an exploration of the world akin to the ‘Grand Tour’ of the 17th-19th centuries.  My influences include: French Romantic Painters (Delacroix, Corot, Courbet) and Italian landscape painters from the 17th century (Guardi,Canaletto).
The ruins depicted in the compositions are of a ‘Rome of The Mind’—a symbolic civilization that became an empty shell.  My paintings are of the nostalgia for an Acadian past that perhaps never existed.  This fundamentally aesthetic and ultimately tragic nostalgia is related to the practice of painting itself: a practice whose death is pronounced so often it has become a cliché.
